Burgundy, France

Maison Louis Jadot’s story can’t be reduced to a simple list of dates. It is, above all, a summary of moments, meetings and an overall philosophy, all based on one simple vision: to maintain the grandeur of Burgundy’s great terroirs for all time.

It all began with a parcel of vines. And we all know just how important these individual bits of land are in Burgundy. It was with the purchase of the Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the story of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. For nearly 200 years they have focused their energies on promoting Burgundy and its viticultural heritage. Ever since the birth of Maison Louis Jadot, they have managed to reunite hundreds of parcels of vines, handing them down from one generation to another in order to guarantee the quality of the wines from this unique terroir.

The Clos du Chapitre is one of the 5 premiers crus from the village of Fixin, neighbour of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vineyard is located on a East oriented smooth slope at an altitude between 300 and 320 m. Its soil is complex and made of clay and marls.

Destemmed grapes ferment in vats for 3 to 4 weeks. Aging takes place in oak barrels produced by the CADUS cooperage for 18 months.

"This new addition to the Jadot portfolio will be a great asset. In 2024, it has produced a wine that is fragrant and forward with a charming aroma of plummy fruit, earth and smoke. The texture is structured and dense; this is a serious wine. The vineyard was just purchased from the Dufouleur family; Jadot has replanted a bit to Chardonnay, but the remaining Pinot is 50–60 years old and produces a wine of great character." - Charles Curtis MW

"Much of this newly acquired parcel is being replanted (with plans to plant some over to Chardonnay), so the 2024 Fixin 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre was produced in especially small quantities. Exhibiting aromas of plums, berries, petals and mint, it's medium-bodied, fleshy and supple, with a delicate, "al dente" style reflecting only moderate ripeness but judicious extraction." - William Kelley

“The 2024 Fixin Clos du Chapitre 1er Cru has a forward nose with ample blackberry, raspberry and orange pith scents, just a little banana skin knocking around at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit. Quite firm tannins, a “solid” Fixin…” - Neal Martin

"Enticing flavors of blackberry, black cherry, black currant and violet permeate this supple, harmonious red. Backed by powdery tannins and vibrant acidity, driving the flavors to the long aftertaste. Mineral and spice elements add detail." - Bruce Sanderson

Antonio Galloni's Vinous, Nov/2024

2023 -

“The 2023 Fixin Clos du Chapitre 1er Cru is a new release, a 2.78-hectare acquisition of 55-year-old vines from the Dufouleur family (who kept a couple themselves so it is no longer a monopole). One hectare is being regrafted by Jadot with Chardonnay. It has a well-defined bouquet of perfumed red fruit, and a touch of blood orange seeps through with aeration. The palate is fresh and vibrant with lively red fruit, a twist of orange rind and a nicely composed finish that exudes joie-de-vivre. The 2023 is a welcome addition to Jadot’s red portfolio.” - Neal Martin
