James Halliday's AWC 2024

"Frank Potts created a system of locks and weirs to provide flood irrigation from inception in 1850, and Bleasdale's Bremerview vineyard still uses that system. Destemmed, open fermented, matured for 12 months in French puncheons (10% new). The wine is ridiculously good value at this price, with the warming gentle palate of Langhorne Creek: plum, dark berry fruit and just enough soft tannin."

"Open fermented with 15% whole berries, left 9–12 days on skins and matured for 12 months in French puncheons and hogsheads (10% new). A pleasant medium-bodied shiraz that is bright and fresh, with savoury black fruits and balanced tannins. Attractive price!"

"Big-value shiraz here – dark fruits and an Asian spice cabinet thrown in, with pepper as well. Plenty of well-toned muscle on the mid palate."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Sep/2022

2019 -

"The 2019 Bremerview Shiraz is a stalky, spicy, exotic example of Shiraz that presents star anise, licorice, aniseed and purple berries in profusion. Spice to the max. It's a little frisky in the acid department currently, but not without charm and life."

"Bremerview is ever-reliable as it promises great value and good flavours, and delivers on both. Expect succulent dark fruit, a dash of soy sauce and five spice, with supple tannins and a freshness throughout."

"A bright and upbeat nose with red-plum, raspberry and redcurrant aromas – very fruit-focused style here. The palate has a smoothly honed central core of sweet ripe red berries. Easygoing. Drink now. Screw cap."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Aug/2021

2018 -

"Marked by scents of ripe mulberries, the 2018 Bremerview Shiraz is a supple, medium-bodied effort. Hints of mint and dark chocolate make brief appearances, but this is a generous, fruit-driven wine, framed by supple tannins and a sense of freshness. It should drink well for a few years."

"A wine that trades effectively on the hearty, fleshy fruit-driven appeal of the region. Blackberries abound, together with really approachable and smoothly finished tannins. Drink now. Screw cap."

"Bleasdale over-delivers handsomely with this medium to full-bodied wine, investing it with the depth and complexity to justify cellaring. Brooding blackberry, licorice and plum flavours rest on a bed of savoury tannins that increase the mouthfeel and length"

"Destemmed, 15% whole berry, open-fermented, 12 days on skins, matured in French oak (15% new) for 12 months. Gold medals Melbourne and National Wine Shows ‘16. Bright crimson-purple; a masterful play between luscious Langhorne Creek fruit and a spicy, savoury finish. The result is a medium-bodied shiraz that holds interest from the first sip to the finish and aftertaste of the last sip. It’s a needle stuck in the groove to comment on the dizzying value for money."

"Destemmed to open fermenters, 15% whole berries, short cold soak, 9-12 days on skins, pressed to new (15%) and used French oak. Top gold National Wine Show ?15, gold Adelaide Wine Show and Melbourne Wine Awards. This is right in the heart of medium-bodied shiraz, black cherry, plum and blackberry fruits encased in a silken web of tannins, and a fleeting glimpse of French oak. Yes, it's $20."

"Opaque ruby. Lively, spice-accented aromas of fresh blueberry, violet and black pepper, along with a touch of succulent herbs in the background. Juicy and light on its feet, offering appealingly sweet blue fruit and floral pastille flavors that open up slowly with air. In a graceful, old-school style, finishing with very good clarity and length and a faint hint of supple tannins."

"Bright purple. Vibrant, highly perfumed black and blue fruit aromas are complemented by suggestions of Indian spices and potpourri. Sweet, seamless and concentrated but light on its feet, offering sappy blueberry and cassis flavors and a suggestion of allspice. The very long, energetic, floral finish is framed by supple, harmonious tannins. This suave wine delivers remarkable value, showing the power and finesse of plenty of Shiraz bottlings that sell for two or three times the price."
