Antonelli San Marco

Umbria, Italy

Antonelli San Marco is a wine and farming estate which extends over an entire 170 hectares located centrally within Montefalco's DOCG winemaking area. With a background rich in history, the Antonelli family is passionately committed to caring for their territory and attentive to the quality of their products.

For years Antonelli San Marco relies on research and constantly aims to improve the quality of their wines. The estate style is geared towards authenticity and harmony, drinkability and elegance rather than blunt power. It leans towards gentle extraction and moderate use of wood ageing.

All of Antonelli San Marco’s vineyards have been organically farmed since 2009, and Certified Organic since 2012.

"One of the true class acts of Italian wine, Filippo Antonelli has been the best president of the Montefalco consortium ever (and for more than one term too) and also happens to be one of the denomination's best producres. For sure, he was the first to understand and to show that the Sagrantino didn't need to, and shouldn't be, mindlessly and needlessly tannic but rather play the cards of perfume and power while remaining light on its feet and refined. One hundred and seventy-five hectares and counting (of which roughly fifty are of vineyards and others devoted to olive groves), clay and limestone-rich soils of various geological origins, different altitudes and exposures, all combine to give wines of varying complexity and diversity. Organic argricultural farming practices, plenty of research and expert winemaking do the rest." - Ian D'Agata, Terroir Sense, Jun/2022

"Filippo Antonelli makes some of the best wines in the Montefalco that show a careful balance between elegance and power. The Antonelli San Marco brand (or just Antonelli, judging from the redesigned labels) enjoys slightly higher elevations randing up to 400 meters above sea level." - Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May/2023
