Before taking over this Entre-Deux-Mers estate from his parents, wine maker Patrick Audouit had completed advanced studies in oenology & was making his mark as a consultant to Bordeaux producers. After many years of giving advice, he decided that he should put his ideas into practice and return to the family domain. In the 90's he completely transformed the estate and turned his wine storehouse into a lab devoted to producing perfectly balanced and mature wines. Such talent and audacity did not go unnoticed: Robert Parker was quick to praise Chateau Haut-Nadeau as one of the best wines from this unheralded Bordeaux sub region.

Australian slang: to come as a great surprise! Far from being a one hit wonder, we’ve had a long record of making outstanding wine. Our trophy polisher is rarely idle. We know success means taking the long road, a commitment to seeing it through the good and bad times and always sticking by your mates. Yet despite our success, the big banks don’t share our view. After being summoned to the local branch and told that the winery he’d run successfully for years had to ‘move some juice’ to meet the impatient demands of the bank, our Proprietor’s immediate reaction was….WTF! Why The ‘Fire-sale’ indeed! He didn't want to release this wine now and he sure didn't want to sell it at this price, but with the bank suggesting a ‘fire-sale’, he had no choice. So here's something a little special, that would normally set you back a bit more…but courtesy of the banks you get to enjoy at a better
than mate’s rates.

In 1999, Hijos de Antonio Barcelo (founded in 1876 in Málaga) planted a 300 Ha estate near Medina del Campo, in the Duero valley, under the new "appellation" of Vino de La Tierra de Castilla y Leon. Key varietals planted include: Tempranillo, Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc. Apart from the high altitude of the estate, c. 550m-650m above sea-level the estate also benefits from predominantly chalk based soils and there is computer controlled drip irrigation for the whole vineyard. At the estate we also have vinification capacity for some 200.000 Kg and 90, 225L French oak barrels, with the remaining fruit being transported at night to the new cellar in Laguna del Duero.

Look for a grassy, grapefruit rind, mineral, passionfruit nose wrapped up in a Euro-dry, elegant, fresh, clean style with mineral, green apple skin, grassy, grapefruit flavours. Aroma: Lively, expresses all the potential of the Sauvignon Blanc variety with citrus, mineral and guava notes.
Taste: Well balanced, rich with a long and lingering finish.

This super value is another example of how good the 2009 vintage is in Spain's Tempranillo belt." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, July/11

Other Info:
The region: Castilla Y Leon, in the north of Spain, is hot and dry, with picturesque castles and cathedrals that date back to the Middle Ages. The area's long history of vine-growing was revolutionized over the past 30 years with the introduction of modern winemaking methods. Denominations such as Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Bierzo are now internationally recognized as producing some of Spain's most exciting wines. Barcelo, Stork's Tower's parent company, has been growing vines and making wine at a 300-ha estate in Laguna de Duero since the 1970s.
Estate-grown fruit from select blocks is carefully hand-picked. Spanish stalwart Tempranillo (50%) provides its signature bright strawberry flavours and fresh aromatics, while Shiraz (50%) adds rich black fruit, fat texture and spice notes. The wine is aged in new and used American oak for three months. The winemaking team is led by Sam Harrop MW. Renowned for his scorn of late-picking, overuse of new oak and heavy-handed winemaking manipulations, Harrop's approach focuses on ensuring balance and diversity.

2010 ~ "It delivers an expressive nose of spring flowers, grapefruit and passion fruit leading to a crisp, well-balanced, refreshing wine offering excellent value." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, July/11
2009 ~ 1st Place - Spanish Whites (Under $15). "When it comes to good value for money it's hard to beat this wine. it's predominantly Sauvignon with a splash of another indigenous Spanish grape called Verdejo. Verdejo makes some lovely wines, especially in Rueda, and gives weight and richness. Pale lemon, fresh and aromatic, pronounced intensity with youthful aromas of peach, grapefruit and fresh cut grass. Light to medium bodied with crisp acidity, flavours of citrus and juicy peach, clean, fresh and unoaked. Have this on hand for when your thirsty mates come over wanting to drink wine like water" - James Cluer, James Cluer Selects, www.FineVintageLtd.com, Sept/10
2009 ~ Judges' Choice - Wine Access Value Wine Awards 2010
2009 ~ Commended - Decanter World Wine Awards 2010
2009 ~ "Offers up a fragrant nose of fresh herbs, citrus and spring flowers. Ripe, intense and vibrant on the palate, it is an excellent value for drinking over the next 12-18 months." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Apr/10
2008 ~ Silver Medal - Decanter World Wine Awards June 2011 (U.K.)
2008 ~ Silver - International Wine Challenge (U.K.)
2008 ~ "50 Under $50 for 2010" - Anthony Gismondi, www.gismondionwine.com, Dec/09
2008 ~ Wine of the Week ~ "Is it true? Has summer really arrived? It sure feels like it. If you are craving something clean and vibrant, Sauvignon Blanc is always a great choice. For some extra personality, the Storks? Tower adds Verdejo to the blend. Fresh cut grass and lime aromas leads to an explosion of citrus on the palate. A salad of arugula, fresh peas and asparagus would be a highly appropriate match." - Michelle Bouffard & Michaela Morris, Housewine.ca, June 2/09
2008 ~ "Recommended white values under $25." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Feb/09
2008 ~ "Storks' Tower Sauvignon Blanc-Verdejo (+423723) $14.99 is a Vino de La Tierra de Castilla y Leon - a "Country Wine" from Valladolid, north-west of Madrid. The native Verdejo grape adds some pear and peach and some chalky mineral "weight" to the tantalizing gooseberry and kiwi fruit flavours of the Sauvignon Blanc." - Doug Sloan, Courier-Islander, Feb 5, 2011
2008 ~ "Reds from Spain outsell whites 10:1 in Canada. which means way too many people will miss out on this delicious blend made by a New Zealand winemaker in Castilla y Leon', an ancient winemaking region in the northwestern corner of the country. Strkingly distinctive, with an aromatic nose of orange blossom and apricot, it tastes of pears , peaches and almonds, with the spicy, nutty Verdejo grape enriching the often single-minded Sauvignon Blanc. At $15, this wine-racy, vibrant and versatile-fills a very happy niche." - Vancouver Magazine, Eating and Drinking Guide 2010, Jan/10
2008 ~ "Verdejo, the white grape from Spain's Rueda region, meets old Bordeaux standby Sauvignon Blanc and imparts a little of its frequently nutty flavours. A delicious and mellow late-summer dinner wine." - Jurgen Gothe, Georgia Straight, Sept/09
2008 ~ "An aromatic wine with a sense of harmony and balance. The entry is a mix of grassy peachy fruit with bits of citrus rind and green apple skin in the finish. I served this with a grilled chicken salad and it was perfect ... Good value." - Anthony Gismondi, The Vancouver Sun, Aug/1/09
2008 ~ "Chances are when you first taste this you'll think 'New Zealand'. And, in a way you wouldn't be too far wrong -- give or take a few thousand miles. Here's a really fun wine in more ways than one. A fresh 'n fruity, quite generous, dry style Sauv Blanc with all the right credentials -- made (with a splash of Verdelho) by a Kiwi in Castilla y Leon. Master of Wine Sam Harrop...knows a thing or two about value. Hand picked and estate grown. It's a deal at BCLS." - Tim Pawsey, North Shore News, July 19/09
2007 ~ Gold Medal! ~ Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, May 2009
2007 ~ "Best in class" - International Wine & Spirit Competition 2008
2007 ~ "Brilliant northern Spanish duo. The aromatic, zesty white delivers delicious, citrusy, appley fruit." - The Times Magazine, Sept/08
2007 ~ "Spanish whites have improved out of all recognition in the past five years, mainly thanks to modern techniques and the quality of local grapes such as Verdejo, combined here with Sauvignon to produce a crisp, fruity, grapefruity blend." - The Guardian's Observer Food Magazine, Aug/08
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Brilliant pale lemon with straw highlights.
Aroma: Brisk, intense stone fruit and citrus.
Taste: Intense apricot, tangy citrus flavours carry through on the medium body. These are complimented by subtle minerality and balanced acidity that continues through the zingy finish.
Pairing: The full fruit and balanced acidity makes this delicious as an aperitif. The lemon and mineral flavours also make it an ideal pairing with seafood and sushi.

Other Info:
The company was founded in the early '60s by Beniamino Maschio, inheritor of a family tradition that has linked the Maschio name to grappa for over three centuries. While still very young, Beniamino began distilling with his brothers in their father's distillery. In 1964, he started his own business in San Michele di Feletto on the hills of Conegliano. Blending love for the profession and a deep study of experimentation, he learned to produce excellent distillations of grape marc, and learned how to blend and age them to craft refined and incredibly elegant products.
Today, Beniamino Maschio's grappas continue to convey the extraordinary quality of this most celebrated Italian distillate outside the country. Research, technique, and quality are the watchwords in his company, thanks to the commitment that the talented wine specialists pour daily into bringing out the original varietal stampings in every distillate and grappa.

2006 ~ 90 Points. "The opaque/purple 2006 Frank Potts is composed of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Malbec aged for 18 months in a mix of new and used 300-liter French and American oak hogsheads. The alluring aromatic array reveals lots of toast, smoke, spice, black currant, and black cherry. It should last 10-12 years at a minimum. Drink 2006-2018." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #168 Dec/06
2004 ~ "This is a mouthwatering blend... It is ripe, generous and perfectly balanced, displaying a deep intensity of red and black fruit with definite overtones of cassis and mint. Plum and red cherry freshness is derived from younger fruit in the blend, while mature Shiraz lends rich savoury spice and dark chocolate flavours. Just how a wine of such quality can be produced every year for such a measly price is, frankly, totally beyond me." - Wine Business Monthly, Oct/09
"Vibrant purple with juicy blueberry, plum, sweet spice, vanilla and chocolate notes and a hint of menthol. On the palate it's liqueur-like, warm rich fruit, smooth and weighted with lingering dark chocolate and spice on the finish. Pair with Christmas cake during the holidays and sweet and sour pork the rest of the year!" ~ Daenna Van Mulligen, Wine Diva.

Awards & Accolades:
2008 ~ "This bright white features ripe pear and mint aromas and flavors, finishing silky. Verdelho, Chardonnay and Riesling. Drink now." - Wine Spectator, July 31/10
2006 ~ "Wedding Wine Picks! Great value! The crisp, dry white blend (Chardonnay, Riesling, Verdehlo) shows lovely tropicals. A real crowd-pleaser." - Stacey-Jo Strombecky, Vendor Magazine, Summer 2008
2006 ~ Recommended! "Shows fresh grapefruit and passionfruit characteristics and lively acidity. Good early drinking." - Wine Wise Australia, Apr/07
2005 ~ "Here's an Aussie blend I'll bet you never tasted before. It's worth a visit though - with the Chardonnay providing the body and the supporting cast providing the freshness. The Langhorne is a pale golden yellow with an intriguing melange of aromas - cut grass, melon, green apples, pears and peaches followed up with a wisp of smoke and flinty minerals. On the palate it's crisp and zippy with green flavours as well as hints of gooseberry and white grapefruit." - Infamous, Daenna Van Mulliogen, Jan/07
2005 ~ "Chardonnay, Rielsing, Verdelho and a touch of Semillon make for a pleasing mix; very fresh, bright and fruity, round but not overly floral, certainly not overstuffed. Put this one down as a must-try this season." - "A Baker's Dozen of Picks" Georgia Straight, Dec 21/06
2004 ~ "There is fine value here in what is essentially a fruit-driven sipper. The riesling and verdelho lift the fruit component in the glass, leaving the chardonnay to provide texture and carry finish. Look for its bright, crisp, tropical fruit flavours to be the perfect foil to the savoury nuances of the turkey." - Anthony Gismondi, Oct/06
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Pale light golden yellow in colour
Aroma: Attractive fruit salad aromas.
Taste: A dry, crisp and fresh wine. Lively citrus and tropical fruit characters prevail. Will develop more complex flavour with bottle maturation.
Pairing: A delightful wine just to sip on its own; perfect for patio sipping and summer barbecues. Pair with warm seafood salads and grilled fish and chicken.

Awards & Accolades:
2010 ~ Gold Medal and trophy for most successful Verdelho. Cowra Wine Show 2010
2008 ~ 90 Points. "Lime and fresh quince on the bouquet; fresh and vibrant fruit with tangy acidity and a clean focus to the conclusion." - James Halliday Australian Wine Companion, 2010 Edition
2008 ~ "Very light in colour, the aromatics on this unoaked white are captivating -- lemon, lanolin, light spice, peach and mineral. The 'splash' of Sauvignon Blanc added brings citrus flavours and acidity to the tropical fruit notes in this light white. Best served moderately chilled, but displays great fruit at almost any temperature." - Ben MacPhee-Sigurdson, Winnipeg Free Press, Aug. 8/09
2008 ~ "Expect light citrusy fruit with more than enough acidity to keep it interesting. Bleasdale's Verdelho is an excellent deck wine but can move into pairing with grilled shrimp or pork satays with ease." - City Palate, Jul-Aug/09
2007 ~ 90 Points. "Light straw-colored with a lovely bouquet of fresh herbs, honeysuckle, and citrus. That leads to a medium-bodied wine exhibiting melon and tropical flavours, excellent acidity, a supple texture, and a pure, fruit-filled finish. Drink it over the next 1-2 years with shellfish or roast chicken." - Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate #173.
2007 ~ "Greenish yellow. Sharply etched lemon and grapefruit on the nose, with fine minerality adding energy. Slightly tart on entry, then fleshes out in the middle, picking up ripe orange and apple flavours. Finishes brisk and persistent." - Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar, 2007
2006 ~ "Old vines add to the intensity of the fruit salad flavours, and the cool climate of the region gives freshness and acidity to also lift it from the ruck." - James Halliday Australian Wine Companion, 2008 Edition
2006 ~ Wine Picks! "This zippy, unoaked wine has been listed as one of Australia's Top 100 wines. It's a deal. The winery, established in 1850, is the country's second-oldest family owned and operated winery. Orange blossom, kiwi and melon on the nose with some lively citrus, guava and pineapple flavours. Consume this wine young with shellfish, salmon, veal, pork and chicken dishes." - Edmonton Journal, Dec 12/07
2005 ~ 89 Points. "Plenty of fruit salad dressed with a zingy, lemon acidity. Long experience with this variety produces a particularly good example. Value plus." - James Halliday Australian Wine Companion, 2007 Edition
2005 ~ "A fresh, zippy, unoaked wine with orange blossom, kiwi fruit and melon nose and rich, lively citrus, guava and pineapple flavours. A great alternative to Chardonnay, Verdelho is an early-ripening white grape producing crisp wine that should be consumed in its youth, Pair with seafood and white meat dishes such as pork and veal." - Nick Lees, The Edmonton Journal, May 3/06
2002 - 4 Stars - Decanter, Sep/03
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Very pale golden yellow in colour.
Aroma: Lively tropical fruit aromas.
Taste: Flavours of citrus, pineapple and melons combine brilliantly to produce a "drink now" crisp style of wine.
Pairing: Terrific with salmon, shellfish and chicken dishes.

2010 ~ 90 Points. "A light- to medium-bodied version of the Premium, tracking that wine in terms of colour, flavour and texture, with its plum and red berry fruit and tannins beyond normal expectations for this variety." - James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion, July 17/12
2010 ~ 89 Points. "This is a great value red wine to buy by the case. This Aussie malbec has intense aromas of ripe brambly berries and violet along with spice, rustic savoury leather, meaty and eucalyptus notes. The palate is full, with lots of red and black bramble berry. It's also quite complex, with earthy paprika, spice, cocoa and charred meat notes." - Rhys Pender MW, Wine Access, Jan 17 2013
2010 ~ WineDiva, Wine List-Budget Bottles 2013!
2009 ~ "Bleasdale Second Innings Malbec 2009 is a rare Australian variety along the order of a two-goal Canuck lead. Orange peel, cooked boysenberry and spicy, chocolate, tobacco aromas preview a supple, slightly tannic palate with some sweetness. Love the plum jam, spice and savoury, vanilla, coffee, tobacco, boysenberry jam flavours with a dusting of mushrooms in the back end. Hamburgers would be an excellent between-period snack with this red." - Anthony Gismondi, Vancouver Sun, May 27/11
2008 ~ 90 Points. "Crimson-purple; masses of plum and plum pudding flavours, the tannins soft but needed to give the wine structure; thoroughly enjoyable." - James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2011

Awards & Accolades:
2009 ~ 90 Points. "Youthful purple, with some crimson; the fresh cherry fruit of the tempranillo meets the darker plummy fruit of the malbec head on; if the tempranillo provides the expected length and finish as the wine ages, this blend will work very well." - James Halliday Australian Wine Companion, August 2011
2009 ~ Judges’ Choice: Red Blends - Wine Access Value Wine Awards 2011
2009 ~ Silver at the Royal Queensland Wine Show, July 2011
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Vibrant redish purple.
Aroma: Aromas of violets, raspberries and spice.
Taste: Dark cherry and white chocolate flavors lead to a long focused finish with fine chalky tannins. Medium bodied with the tempranillo complimenting the savoury Malbec particularly well.
Pairing: Paired nicely with roast beef, steak and prime rib as well with roast turkey and chicken.

Awards & Accolades:
2011 ~ 90 Points. “Ripe yet fresh black plums, strawberries, white pepper and spice aromas carry through a fleshy and well-groomed palate. Drink 2013-2015.” ~ Decanter Magazine, February 2013
2010 ~ 91 Points. “There is an inner tension to this wine manifest in its red fruit and acidity, in a prickle on the tongue and a crispness to fruit and chestnuts speak of the power of the sun in the heights of Salta. The texture is unctuous and soft, coating every corner of the palate. This blend of Malbec (75 percent) with Cabernet, Syrah and Tannat.” – Wine & Spirits, December 2012
2010 ~ Smart Buy & 89 Points. "A racy, floral red, offering layers of raspberry ganache, blackberry and light fig fruit that mingle with spice, spring herb and light mesquite notes. Though not a powerhouse, this is well-balanced." - Wine Spectator, July/12
2010 ~ "A sleeper style red you can lay away three to five years and watch it improve. There is plenty of fresh, juicy, plum, black cherry fruit with a smoky, tobacco leaf, peppery, meaty, cassis, coffee and licorice undercurrent. Good finesse and intensity with a juicy warm finish and light tannins to shed. Finesse and value that will improve with time." - Anthony Gismondi, Vancouver Sun, January 2013
2010 ~ "An intriguing blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Tannat Amalaya Vino Tinto (168294) $19.99 is on the lighter side of the full-bodied red spectrum. Lots of sassy red berry fruit flavours lead into black cherry and ripe plum over a touch of sweet caramel and peppery oak." - Doug Sloan, Island Courier, Sept 21/12
2010 ~ "This malbec-based blend has notes of juicy black fruit, plum, herb, tobacco, violet and spice on both the nose and palate. The tannins are softer in this wine than previous examples, but it is still weighty and balanced. It is drinking great right now, with barbecue, anything beef or some good cheese.” - Wine Access, Aug 30/12
2010 ~ "Cherry liqueur, menthol, violet and spicy oak on the nose and palate. Suave, supple and energetic, with a sugar/acid balance giving the mid-palate insidious intensity and good definition. Nicely rising, fine-grained finish shows good length and a light touch. Sophisticated for the price." - Stephen Tanzer, March 2012
2009 ~ 89 Points. "My top pick is Amalaya Tinta de Altura 2009, from Argentina. Amalaya means waiting for a miracle, which aptly describes finding a wine like this in B.C. From the highest vineyards in the world this malbec, cabernet sauvignon, Syrah and tannat offers a rich palate of sweet dark cherry fruit and white pepper with flecks of mineral and spice. The finish is long fresh and spicy with silky textures that do not quit. Farmed bio-dynamically and certified in what is essentially the highest vineyard in the world." - Anthony Gismondi, The Vancouver Sun, Dec/10
2009 ~ 100+ Best Value Bottles ~ "Brilliant high-altitude, biodynamically farmed Malbec, Cab, Syrah, and Tannat blend." - Vancouver Magazine, Jan/Feb 2012
2009 ~ By Popular Demand: 20 Under $20 List - www.housewine.ca, June 28/11
2009 ~ Best Buy wines, 20 under $20 ~ "This Malbec, Cabernet, Syrah and Tannat blend is delicious. Chewy tannins coupled with good acidity form the firm yet supple backbone for its rich black fruit. Have with your best Spring Creek Ranch grilled beef. This is high altitude wine, from the world's highest altitude winery." - The Tomato Magazine, May/June 2011
2009 ~ "Is an Argentine with rich, fresh fruit-kind of a cherry blend that rewards solo sipping and makes a satisfying match with dinner. The price is nice enough for a second bottle on the dinner table." - Jurgen Gothe, The Georgia Straight April, 2012
2009 - "Pure red-berry fruit, petals, and toast mark the nose, and rich strawberry and plum layered with spicy French oak the flavour. Precision farming, fermentation in smooth concrete vessels, and 10 months in oak lend dimension, depth, and finesse to this Malbec blend. Deserves a choice prime rib roast with all the trimmings." - Vancouver Magazine, April 12, 2012
2009 ~ "In the language of the native peoples of the Calchaqui, Amalaya means hope. Owned by the Hess Family of wineries (the properties are located on four continents: South America - in Argentina, North America in Napa Valley, Australia - Barossa Valley, Africa - in South Africa) Amalaya is home to the highest vineyards on earth.
The aromas in this Malbec based red blend are sweet but notably earthy - wild briary berries are layered with currents, dried herbs, mineral-rich earth and peppery spices. It is smooth and solid on the palate, the balance is good and it lays down flavours of coffee, mixed wild berries, vanilla and spice. It is an interesting red, quite chic, with a bright, juicy finish." - Daenna Van Mulligan The Wine Diva, February, 2012
2009 ~ "A bold, rich red is the wine equivalent of a dozen red roses. They're classic and will never go out of style, just make sure the wine is balanced and the flowers are long-stemmed! Amal-aya passes the test. It's a sumptuous blend made from grapes grown mile-high in Argentina's Calchaquí Valley and even has a whiff of floral notes to match a bouquet of flowers. There is also luscious berry and plum along with vanilla and pepper showing in this Malbec-dominated red featuring a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Tannat. Serve this with a quick sausage-themed pasta, or simply sip solo fireside. Bottom line: B+ "Bold and beautiful." - James Nevison The Province Newspaper, February 9, 2012
2009 ~ "Amalaya means waiting for a miracle which aptly describes finding a wine like this in British Columbia at $20. From the highest vineyards in the world. A must buy." - Anthony Gismondi, The Vancouver Sun, November 26/2011
2009 ~ "Stand outs and one of a few we fell in love with in the Tasting Room at Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival 2011" - Michaela Morris & Michelle Bouffard, Housewine.ca, Apr/11
2008 ~ 90 Points. "The dark, pure fruit hinting at tea and mineral as the finish persisted, won me over." - Wine Spectator Online, July/10
2008 ~ 89 Points. "At 14.5 percent alcohol, the nose is a bit hot off the start, but underneath are very enjoyable aromas of mint, chocolate, plum, leather and cool savoury notes. Flavours remain true to the palate. Generous fruit is balanced by grippy tannins and bitter chocolates, moving into a very palatable finish. Pair with typical red wine food matches. It may cellar well longer, but to retain the freshness and fruit, drink within 3 years if possible." - Wine Access Buyers' Guide+, 2009
2008 ~ "Ripe and bouncy, offering a fresh, almost tangy, mix of currant, fig, raisin and cherry laced with hints of mesquite and fruitcake. Stays fresh on the finish. Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Tannat. Drink now." - Wine Spectator, Oct/11
2008 ~ Wine of the Week. "From the dizzying heights of Salta (over 5000 feet above sea level!) comes the Amalaya. Powerful and intense, with black salted licorice, wild cherries and hunger-inducing meaty notes, it packs a punchy personality. Predominantly Malbec but a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Tannat all add intrigue. Of course this would be great with steak but we think it would reach perfection with a gamey piece of venison. Salta is just one of the incredible stops on our Argentina wine tour. " - Michelle and Michaela, www.housewine.ca, Mar1/11
2007 ~ 91 Points & Smart Buy ~ Wine Spectator, Jun 15/09
2007 ~ 89 Points. "Fleshy ripe berry, green herb and peppery spice on the nose trigger comparisons with the wild berry character of California Zinfandel. Zingy red berry and blackberry flavours are backed up with milk chocolate, spice, lively acidity and firm, dry tannic structure. An exciting wine at this price." - Tidings Magazine, Apr/10
2007 ~ "The purple-colored 2007 Amalaya Malbec contains 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah. It was raised in a combination of stainless steel and French oak. Purple-colored, it reveals an expressive nose of spice box, violets, and black cherry. Ripe and succulent on the palate, this concentrated effort has very good depth and should drink well over the next 3 years." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Aug/09
2006 ~ 90 Points. "This wine is an interesting blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Tannat and Bonarda. Deep garnet colour. Complex nose offering a pleasant combination of fruit, earth and meat aromas, revealing notes of cassis, blackberries, truffles, game and a hint of violets. The palate is full bodied with medium-high acidity providing vitality. Concentrated fruit flavours lead to a long finish. Drink now - 2011." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Jan/09
2006 ~ 90 Points. "Exotic, but pure, with delicious fig, currant paste, hoisin sauce and spiced hot chocolate notes. Long finish has nicely buried acidity, delivering lingering graphite and mineral hints." - Wine Spectator Online, 2008
2006 ~ "This smoothie blends Malbec with Cab Sauv, Syrah, Tannat and Bonarda, and is ready to sashay with soothing rich plum and supple raspberry, capped by a fresh, vanilla-infused finish." - Kenji Hodgson and James Nevison, Had a Glass, Top 100 wines for 2010 Under $20, $25, and $30.
2006 ~ "Founded in 1831, high in the foothills of the Andes, Bodega Colome can lay claim to being one of the original pioneers of the Argentine wine industry. Sourcing grapes from its own biodynamically farmed vineyards, this blend of Malbec dominated grapes is delicious with ripe berry, vanilla and spice flavors and soft tannic finish." - Larry Arnold, Eat Magazine, Victoria , B.C., Mar-Apr/09
2006 ~ "Inviting raspberry, plum and pepper nose. Dry, concentrated fruit. Harmonious and integrated with a refreshing finish." - Decanter, (online) 2008
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Deep ruby with purple highlights.
Aroma: Fruity and sweet with intense aromes of red berries like cherry, raspberry, and black berries such as mulberry. A soft chocolate touch due to its oaking.
Taste: Fresh with high fruit expression and spicy notes. It is very intense, well structured with a long mouth. Very easy to drink due to its soft, gentle and round tannins.
Pairing: Ideal with light meats such as poultry, and is also delicious with tomato-based pasta sauces and hard cheeses.

Awards & Accolades:
2012 ~ 90 Points. "While the red blend in this line is regularly available, as far as I know the white was a festival-only pour. A blend of Torrontes and Riesling (a 90-10 split), there's loads of bright peach, mandarin orange and floral notes on the nose. Honey and tropical fruit flavours dominate on the dry, medium-bodied palate, with orange peel notes lifted by a hint of sweetness." - Ben MacPhee-Sigurdson, The Winnipeg Free Press, May 13, 2013
2011 ~ Regional Trophy Winner, Argentinian Torrontes under Ł10 - Decanter World Wine Awards 2012
2011 ~ "This is an excellent value for a complex aromatic white from the Salta region in northern Argentina, which is home to the aromatic torrontés grape. It is a blend of 85% of that grape with 15% riesling that gives some zip to the mid-palate and finish. Expect floral aromas of daffodil, with ripe melon, white peach and ginger spice. The palate is rich and creamy with very good length. This has the stuffing to hold up against slightly spicy tapas dishes, like pickled vegetables or chorizo-based appetizers." - Wine Access, Aug 9, 2012
2010 ~ Gold Medal - A wine truly innovative and original, which blends Torrontes and Riesling, respecting the style of the great white wines from Calchaqui Valley. There are some wines with such a good value that deserve to be tried before fame makes them more expensive. Amalaya White 2010 is one of them. - Decanter World Wine Awards, May/11
2010 ~ 89 Points. "A blend of torrontés and riesling, this wine's nose is rife with honey, lime, peach and apricot. It has quite mineral and floral aromas. The palate is spot on, with a subtle touch of sweetness and great balance. Drink now." - Wine Access, August 30/12
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Intense gold with greenish edges.
Aroma: Subtle and complex fruity aromas where apple and floral notes outstand.
Taste: Sweet entry full of weight. Mineral notes and a touch of honey distinguish. The end is fresh with a kind acidity.
Pairing: Pair this wine with seafood, spicy dishes and Asian food.
Other Info:

Colomé is nominated for “New World Winery of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast 2012
2008 ~ 94 Points & Best of the Argentina 2011. "The 2008 Reserva Malbec (100%) was sourced from the estate's 60-to-150 year-old, pre-phylloxera, Biodynamically farmed vineyard. It went through malolactic in new oak, where it remained for the rest of its élevage. It is a glass-coating opaque purple color, with a brooding bouquet of toasty oak, mineral, exotic spices, incense, black cherry and black currant. Dense, velvety-textured and suave. It deftly melds elegance and power in a wine that will easily achieve its 20th birthday in peak form." - Jay Miller The Wine Advocate, December 23, 2011
2008 ~ 92 Points. "A dark, juicy red, displaying serious depth to the kirsch, cassis
and spicy fig paste notes. Structured and dense, with layer after layer of baking spices, mesquite and mocha. Drink now through 2016." - Wine Spectator Insider June 13/12
2007 ~ 95 Points. "Colome's old-vine cuvee is one of Argentina's icon Malbecs. The 2007 Reserva is 85% Malbec and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from a 20-acre plot of 60 to 150-year-old vines purchased by owner, Donald Hess, in 2001. The wine spent 24 months in new French oak. With a glass-coating opaque purple color, it has that extra dimension of complexity that only old vines can provide. It offers up a confiture of black cherry and black raspberry along with mineral notes and toasty new oak. Dense, layered, concentrated, this rich, impeccably balanced effort will benefit from 5-7 years of cellaring and drink well through 2030." ~ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Aug/09
2005 ~ 92 Points. "Very dark and lush, with nearly hyperripe fig, blackberry and boysenberry flavors layered with bittersweet chocolate, black tea and spice notes. Stays poised and balanced, with a long, fleshy finish. - Wine Spectator, Apr/09
2005 ~ 92 Points. "The 2005 Reserva is a blend of 80% Malbec and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon which spent 18 months in new French oak. The wine is a saturated purple in color with a fragrant, complex bouquet of pain grille, earth notes, spice box, black currant, black cherry, and blueberry. On the palate it is opulent, silky, concentrated, and lengthy. It conceals enough structure to permit another 4-6 years of aging in the cellar. Drink it from 2012 to 2025." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Dec/08
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Opaque, inky black with brilliant purple highlights.
Aroma: Ripe fruit aromas with blackberries, black pepper and plum. as well as a touch of vanilla and mineral.

Awards & Accolades:
2008 ~ “Supple and racy, this lively red shoes wild berry, cherry, herb and vanilla flavors. Light tannins provide just enough structure, while vibrant acidity keeps this fresh. Drink now.” – Wine Spectator, September 30th, 2012
2007 ~ Excellent Value - Wine Advocate/Robert Parker June 2011
2006 ~ 89 Points. "An interesting and complex nose with meaty, gamey and smoky notes, with plum, strawberry, blueberry and Asian five spice. The palate has more ripe red berry fruit, minerality and spice, but it is dominated by a mouth-watering, fleshy, meaty character with rosemary-like a hunk of lamb cooked rare on the barbeque. Long, complex and delicious." - Rhys Pender, Buyer's Guide+, Wineaccess.ca, Nov.25/10
2006 ~ Silver Medal (Best in Class) - International Wine & Spirits Competition 2010
2006 ~ "Martinez Bujanda has a long history of coming to Vancouver and his Conde de Valdemar Crianza 2006 deserves a better reception from the city than it gets. Look for a well-structured wine with clean tempranillo fruit as its focus. A touch of mazuelo, the secret weapon, fills out the wine lending complexity and depth. It spends about 14 months in American oak. Another fabulous wine for lamb chops or osso buco." - Anthony Gismondi, Vancouver Sun, Feb 19/11
2005 ~ Judges' Choice - Wine Access Value Wine Awards 2010
2005 ~ Recommended values under $25 - Wine Advocate; Feb/09
2005 ~ "Quite ripe on the nose, such that raisin and sweetness are front and center. Saturated in the mouth ...flavours of plum and berry." - Wine Enthusiast Magazine, Jul/09
2004 ~ Silver; Decanter World Wine Awards 2008
2004 ~ Silver; Mundus Vini 2008
2004 ~ "Extreme Value" Wine & Spirits; Dec/08
2004 ~ "Compact and polished, with fresh fruit, well-integrated tannins and lively acidity. Plum, black cherry, tobacco and mineral flavors mingle and linger." - Wine Spectator, Nov 15/08
2001 ~ "Conde de Valdemar Crianza 2001 has been chosen by The New York Times (March 10/06) as the "best wine in Rioja for its value for money". For the gastronomic critic of the noted North American newspaper Eric Asimov, Conde de Valdemar is the clear example of why the crianzas of Rioja are among the best in the world.
The wines tasted by The New York Times included wines of different styles from 8 to 250 dollars.
Conde de Valdemar Crianza has an intense bright and clear cherry colour with slight purple glints. It boats powerful aromas of red berry fruit with rich vanilla nuances and smokiness. In the mouth it is well-rounded and silky with good backbone. Red berry fruit and vanilla touches come out in the long velvety finish. It goes well with roasted red meat, strong dry cheese and/or cold meats"
2001 ~ "Made from 85% tempranillo and 15% mazuelo, this modestly oaked Rioja red has an appealing, fruit-driven bouguet of cassis and raspberry, with an overlay of leathery, earthy, secondary characters. ...It's palate has typical savoury Rioja flavours, finishing with drying tannins. The texture is fleshy and soft, with staisfying depth and balance. It's a very good food wine..." - Gourment Traveller Wine, Aug-Sep/05
2001 ~ "Ideal for everyday drinking" - Wine Enthusiast Buying Guide, Sep/04
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Deep ruby red with purple highlights.
Aroma: Intense but refined ripe red berry aromas, accented by leather, sweet spice and vanilla.
Taste: Red berry and spice aromas carry through on the medium-bodied palate with fine, silky tannins, gentle acidity and good persistence.
Pairing: A great match for game, roast red meat and perfect with matured cheese and/or sausages.

A mature, lamby red." - Joshua Greene,Wine & Spirits, December 2012

2004 ~ 91 Points. "The 2004 Conde de Valdemar Gran Reserva is a blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Mazuelo, and 5% Graciano aged for 26 months in French and American oak. Made in a traditional style, it is already beginning to show aromatic complexity from its extended aging. Cedar, leather, Asian spices, incense, black cherry, and blackberry lead to a rich, elegant, plush wine in the style of the superb 2004 vintage. Flavorful, stylish, and lengthy, it will continue to blossom with several more years of cellaring and drink well through 2024" - Wine Advocate, June/10

Bright black cherry over broodingly deep prune plums, a complex toasty medley of intriguing oak that starts with vanilla and ends with dark chocolate, some herbal hints and a swish of sandalwood all simmer in the glass.” - Doug Sloan, Island-Courier, March 1, 2013.
2001 ~ 91 Points. "Conde de Valdemar is Bodegas Valdemar's flagship line. This wine is a blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Mazuelo and 5% Graciano from their oldest vineyards. Aged 26 months in a combination of French and American oak, and then another 48 months in bottle prior to release. Awards & Accolades:
2011 ~ 90 Points. “Smoke, honey and almond notes frame roasted apple and dry honey flavors in this distinctive white. Balanced and rich, with a firm and polished texture. Drink now through 2014.” – Wine Spectator, September 30th, 2012
2010 ~ 91 Points. "From a mutation of Tempranillo that Valdemar decided to cultivate, this yield's scents of apple blossoms, pain grille and salted caramels. The texture is smooth, with a fatness in the middle that's cut by searing acidity. That combination of unctuous and edgy would be delicious with roast sea bass." - Wine & Spirits Magazine, December/2011
2010 ~ 91 Points. "Pale yellow. Nectarine, pear and smoky lees on the nose, complicated by notes of honeysuckle and lemon zest. Bright and lively but at the same time deep, offering sappy pit fruit flavors and a touch of bitter pear skin. A vanilla note comes up with air and carries through a long, gently chewy, gripping finish. This is the first vintage for this wine, which is made from a white mutation of tempranillo that was apparently discovered in the early 1990s." - Stephen Tanzer's International Cellar, Sept/Oct 2011
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Pale yellow colour with greenish hues.
Aroma: Its tropical fruit aroma surprises you, particularly pineapple with underlying subtle citrus aromas recalling grapefruit.
Taste: It has a fresh attack followed by smoothness and a full, supple body, with the tropical aromas returning in the back-tasting.
Pairing: Ideal for nouvelle cuisine canapés, for example barbecued scallops, cod brandade with black olive ash and hot chilli, soused mussel and marinated anchovies, grilled sardine, royal of foie-grass...It is also perfect with sophisticated starters, such as “harmony of red tuna”, black rice with squid, red prawn carpaccio, scampi salad and oysters among others.

Awards & Accolades:
2007 ~ 94 Points. "The 2007 Barolo Villero is all flowers, rose petals, spices and bright red fruit. This soft, sensual Barolo is laced with exquisite finesse to match its classy, poised personality. It is pure seduction. The 2007 is drinking well for such a young wine. It is already a touch forward and I don’t expect it will be especially long-lived by Brovia standards. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2012
2006 ~ 92-95 Points. "Like the Rocche, the 2006 Barolo Villero is also made from a vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, but it could not be more different. Here the fruit is deep, dark and sensual. While the Rocche tends towards suggestions of floral red berries, the Villero reveals plums, prune, spices and menthol intermingled with a host of other balsamic overtones. This virile yet mid-weight wine is quite promising. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Feb/10
2001- 92 Points. "The estate’s 2001 Barolo Villero takes things up a notch, with its deep, rich nose of menthol, eucalyptus and sweet fruit. It shows plenty of dark fruit on a dense, structured frame of excellent length that will naturally take longer to become fully expressive. It should gracefully evolve to age 20 and maybe beyond. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021." - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, Oct 2006
Tasting Notes:
Colour: The colour is intense ruby red with a light presence of orange reflections.
Aroma: The smell is elegant, intense, pleasant , balanced and with a hint of withered roses, plums, minerals, tobacco, liquorice, smoke and leather.
Taste: The taste is full bodied, balanced and velvety, with a huge structure and a very long finish.
Pairing: The traditional combinations are, definitely, with game or red meat dishes. The balance of this Barolo makes it very suitable as a “meditation wine” to savour while eating grissini or small slices of toasted bread.
Other Info:
The ageing takes place in French oak (mid size barrels of 30 Hl.), where the wine is allowed to mature for 2 years. After the ageing, the wine is put in the bottles without any filtration. The refining is carried out in a place at constant temperature and right humidity, protected from sunlight and artificial light.

Awards & Accolades:
2007 ~ 96 Points ~ "The 2007 Barolo Rocche emerges from the glass with freshly cut roses, sweet berries and spices. The Rocche is always the most open of Brovia’s single vineyard Baroli. In 2007 the wine has an extra dimension of textural richness that makes it incredibly appealing even at this young stage. Floral notes reappear on the silky, pure finish. This is a fabulous showing, but the wine will be even better in a few years. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2011
2006 ~ 96 Points ~ "Usually rather open and expressive, in 2006 the Barolo Rocche has the makings of a long-distance runner. From time to time its perfumed red fruit makes an appearance yet this remains a powerful, inward Rocche in need of significant cellaring. There is plenty of muscle in the glass, in fact the wine continues to gain weight with air. Sweet roses and tar have the last word on the magnificent, perfumed finish. The Rocche has become marvelously expressive since I tasted it last year. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2036." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Dec/10
Tasting Notes:
Colour: The colour is garnet red with light orange coloured reflections.
Aroma: The nose is balanced and intense with violets, strawberries, prunes, cherries, mint, woody essence, liquorice and some balsamic notes.
Taste: The taste begins slowly, but it grows incrementally until coating the palate.
Pairing: This wine can combine with every dish (except sweets) going particularly well with meat dishes and dry mature cheese.

Awards & Accolades:
2009 ~ 91 Points. "Good full, deep ruby-red. Bitter cherry, crushed black fruits, leather and flowers on the perfumed nose; conveys an impression of noble rusticity. Juicy, very fresh and pure, with outstanding density to its dark berry and licorice flavors. Wonderfully sappy, energetic barbera with a rich, long, almost saline finish featuring firm tannins for the variety. This very strong barbera invites you to eat and drink." - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, October 2011
2008 ~ 90 Points. "The 2008 Barbera d’Alba Sori del Drago is a mid-weight, elegant wine laced with silky, perfumed dark red fruit. This, too, offers terrific intensity and fabulous overall balance from start to finish. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Dec/10
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Pleasantly intense ruby red.
Aroma: The scent shows is vinous, fresh and fruity.
Taste: Full bodied with soft tannins and a long finish.
Pairing: This wine is particularly suitable with all dishes, particularly hot Piemontese hors d’ouvres, strong tasting pasta, rice dishes and with white meat dishes.

Awards & Accolades:
2007 ~ 89-92 Points. "The 2007 Barolo is impressively rich and concentrated for an entry-level bottling. Wonderfully open and seductive, the 2007 Barolo should drink beautifully from the get-go. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025. " - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2011
Tasting Notes:
Colour: The colour is intense red.
Aroma: A clean scent of dry and sweet fruit and floral aromas.
Taste: The wine is full bodied with a solid acidity that gives it more longevity suitable to stand the test of time.

Awards & Accolades:
2007 ~ 92 Points. “Sporting beef bouillon and balsamic notes, this red’s mix of cherry, iron, leather and tea flavours is backed by a sinewy frame. The tannins leave a drying impression, but this has character, so be patient.” – Wine Spectator, Aug/12
2006 ~ 94 Points. "The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino comes across as tightly wound and inward at this stage. With time in the glass the wine's inner perfume gradually comes to life, even if this remains a reticent Brunello within the context of the vintage. Still, it is impossible not to admire the inner sweetness of the fruit and the impeccable polish of the tannins. All this needs is time, maybe a little more than usual in this vintage. This is another solid set of wines from Canalicchio di Sopra - Ripaccioli, an estate that continues to ratchet up quality in a meaningful way." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May/11
2006 ~ 92 Points. "Ripe and juicy, sporting cherry, raspberry, rose and spice aromas and flavors, all playing out on the elegant frame. This is a delicate style, favoring finesse over power. Still, there are tannins underneath that need time to integrate. Mineral finish." - Wine Spectator Insider, May 25, 2011
2005 ~ 91 Points. "Wild cherries, tobacco, new leather, spices and earthiness gradually emerge as this brooding, intense Brunello reveals its pedigree. Menthol, tar and licorice add further dimensions of complexity on the long, lingering finish." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Apr/10
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Deep ruby red with flecks of garnet on the rim.
Aroma: Aromas of blueberry, red fruits, leather and earth.
Taste: Flavours of wild cherries, tobacco, leather, spice, and earth. A long lingering finish with hints of menthol, tar and liquorice completes this complex wine.
Pairing: Pairs well with red meats and game, mature cheeses.
Other Info:

Specifically, the Brunello di Montalcino has been aged approximately 36 months in Slavonia oak barrels with an average capacity of 30 hl, then in bottles for 1 more year.

Awards & Accolades:
2007 ~ 94 Points. "This riserva Brunello delivers a dark and masculine approach with brawny aromas of cured meat, spice, black fruit and prune. Both the density and persistency are impressive and the wine ends with inky concentration and finely textured tannins." - Wine Enthusiast Magazine, May 2013
2006 ~ 93 Points. "The ripe cherry, plum, earth and spice aromas and flavors are
beautifully displayed on the dense, tannic structure in this red, which is bright and energetic, with an aftertaste of fresh fruit and wild herbs. Best from 2014 through 2035." - Wine Spectator Insider, May 30, 2012
2005 ~ 93+ Points. "The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is terrific. Freshly cut roses, sweet red fruits, tobacco and licorice emerge gracefully from this refined, utterly impeccable Brunello. Sweet, elegant tannins frame the fruit beautifully through to the finish. The 2005 Riserva remains a typical, mineral-laced, taut wine from the northern district. It's potential for continued positive development in bottle seems excellent. The estate gave the Riserva 40 months in oak. This is another solid set of wines from Canalicchio di Sopra - Ripaccioli, an estate that continues to ratchet up quality in a meaningful way." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May/11
2005 ~ 93 Points. "Here's another superstar Brunello Riserva from the excellent 2004 vintage. The aromas are rich and penetrating and recall cherry liqueur, cola, mesquite, cedar, wet earth and pressed violets. The wine's texture is streamlined and compact with polished tannins." - Wine Enthusiast, Aug/10
2004 ~ 93+ Points. "The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is built on a core of elegance and refinement rather than the sheer power that typically characterizes the estate's wines. This is a sensual, layered Brunello that only gradually reveals its seductive charm. Sweet, silky tannins support a core of ripe dark fruit all the way through to the sublime, delicate finish." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Apr/10
2004 ~ 92 Points. "There's licorice on the nose, with some salt and ripe cherry, in this Brunello, which has very intense aromas that lead to a chewy, concentrated, full-bodied palate. A little rustic and overdone. But impressive nonetheless." - Wine Spectator, Jun/10
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Deep ruby core with flecks of garnet on the rim.
Aroma: Aromas of red plum, with hints of floral, liquorice, salt, and tar.
Taste: Flavours of rich ripe dark fruit with toasty oak and hints of tobacco. Relatively rustic tannins.
Pairing: Pairs well with red meats and game, matured cheeses.

Awards & Accolades:
2009 ~ 89 Points. "The 2009 Rosso di Montalcino is a gorgeous wine bursting with dark red fruit. It shows plenty of harmony and fine overall balance. Sweet spices and flowers linger on the warm, radiant finish. This is another solid set of wines from Canalicchio di Sopra - Ripaccioli, an estate that continues to ratchet up quality in a meaningful way." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May/11
2008 ~ "Attractive aromas of sweet blackberry and cherry follow through to a medium body, with a solid core of fruit and a medium finish. Shows good concentration for a Rosso." - Wine Spectator, Aug. 31/10
2008 ~ "You could easily pair this food-friendly Rosso di Montalcino with roasted chicken with rosemary potatoes and garlic. The nose here is bright and penetrating with earthy notes, mineral tones and loads of bright berry fruit. The mouthfeel is smooth and there's a touch of cherry sweetness as well. Considered on of the 3 best Rosso di Montalcino 2008 Produced" - Wine Enthusiast, Aug/10
2008 ~ "The 2008 Rosso di Montalcino is one of the better versions in this tricky vintage. A gorgeous bouquet bristling with Sangiovese aromas leads to red cherries, tobacco and earthiness. There is a plumpness and juiciness I find very attractive here. Some of the wilder, gamier notes typical of Sangiovese come through from time to time, but that notwithstanding, this is a lovely effort." - Wine Advocate # 188 Apr/10
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Clear medium ruby.
Aroma: Aromas of sweet blackberry, cherry, leather, black pepper.
Taste: Flavours of cherries, blackberries, leather, black pepper, tobacco, earth. Medium bodied with a subtle finish.
Pairing: Pairs well with pasta dishes, grilled meats, casseroles and stews, hard cheeses.

Le Lucrezie Sangiovese is made from the Sangiovese grapes so typical of the hills in the region surrounding Todi. Once the grapes are brought into the winery they are pressed and separated through a crusher-stemmer and successfully loaded in fermentation tanks. The must is then left in contact with the peels for 8 to 12 days. After the gross dregs are removed from the wine, it is placed in steel tanks to age for around four months. Following another three month refinement in bottles, the wine is ready to be enjoyed.

2010 ~ Available in BC and AB Summer/13.
Merlot is certainly not Umbria’s most typical grape, however, the region’s soft-rolling hills, the continental climate, the right amount of rain in Spring, and the dry, sunny climate in the Summer guarantee the perfect conditions for the development of this international mainstay.
First bottled in the 80s as an “experiment,” (it had been previously used by Cantina Tudernum as a mixer to enhance other reds) Francoré is now one of the winery’s flagship products and it has obtained awards and mentions internationally.

Tasting Notes:
Colour: Ruby red with garnet tinge.
Aroma: Aromas of wild berries, particularly ripe black berries, wild cherries, and intense coffee and chocolate scents.
Taste: Full bodied and tannic, with red fruit flavours and a hint of spice.
Pairing: from cheeses and pasta dishes, to rich meats. Pork is typical in the region but more so are the products of game hunting such as hare, boar and fowl. These dishes are traditionally rich and wild tasting and can only be exalted by a wine that can match their strong character.
Other Info:
2007 ~ Available in BC and AB Summer/13.
Highly structured wine produced with 100% Sagrantino grapes from vineyards around the hilly regions of Montefalco, in the heart of Umbria. In past times it was produced almost exclusively for liturgical uses –hence the name deriving from the Latin “Sacrum” meaning “sacred thing”.

Awards & Accolades:
2010 ~ 90 Points. " This rich white evokes apple pie, peach , grapefruit and spice notes. Broad and full-bodied, lingering on the finish. The oak nuances are absorbed with air. drink now through 2014." - Wine Spectator, October 2012
2009 ~ 90 Points. "There’s a soothing, silky quality to this sunny Tuscan Chardonnay that sets it apart in a crowd. The wine is aged in both stainless steel and oak in order to maintain its fresh aromas of apricot and candied citrus as well as the richness of its texture." - Wine Enthusiast Magazine, March 2012
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Light golden yellow.
Aroma: Fresh aromas of apricot and candied citrus.
Taste: Smooth and rich. A lovely dry style of Chardonnay with tinges of lemon peel and a slight hint of a green note to it which balanced well with the white fruit and floral notes.
Pairing: Pairs well with roast chicken, turkey, quiche, and cheeses.
Other Info:
Born in 1980 from a challenge of Fabrizio Bianchi to create a white wine of great character in an area which was not especially dedicated to it, this selection of Chardonnay from the Valdigallo vineyard, 3.50 hectares at an altitude of 260 metre a.s.l. exposed to the north-east, is vinified half in 5 hl French barrels and the other half in steel. It ages over two years in glass before the sale. Its great capacity to age makes it possible to enjoy its characteristics to the best after many years from the harvest.

2008 ~ 92 Points. "The 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva is a very pretty, centered wine. Dark cherries, plums, spices, menthol, cedar, game and tobacco are some of the notes that emerge from the glass. The 2008 is an understated Riserva that impresses for its length, focus and balance. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023." - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Aug/2011
2008 ~ 91 Points. "Bright red. Delicate aromas of redcurrant, blueberry and violet. Fresh and refined, with lovely purity and verve to the red cherry, redcurrant and floral flavors. Finishes with smooth tannins and great acid lift." - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, July/2012
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Bright red.
Aroma: Intense fruit aromas including currant and blueberry complemented by forest floor notes.
Taste: Medium bodied wine showing rich fruit flavours, well balanced with a long finish.

Other Info:
Castello di Monsanto owns some of the best vineyard sites within the appellation and are home to the largest reserves of Chianti Classico in Tuscany. In 1962, Fabrizio Bianchi founded the winery after it was presented to him as a wedding gift from his parents. That same year, pioneering Monsanto was the first winery to make a Chianti Classico Cru from the single ‘Il Poggio’ vineyard and worked to eliminate white grapes from Chianti Classico Riserva blend. Further, in 1981 Monsanto harvested the first 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, Nemo, from the Il Mulino vineyard.
The Castello di Monsanto estate covers a total of 206 hectares (509 acres), of which more than half is wooded, while olive orchards occupy an additional 15 hectares. Estate vineyards, located at an altitude between 250 and 310 meters (82-1,070 feet), covers a total area of 72 hectares encompassing hand picked Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Trebbiano and Malvasia varieties.

Awards & Accolades:
2007 ~ 91 Points. " Concentrated flavors of blackberry and plum are matched by brisk acidity and dense tannins. This has character, though its more about the grape than place. Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2020." - Wine Spectator, October 2012
2006 ~ 95 Points. "The 2006 Nemo Vigneto Il Mulino (Cabernet Sauvignon) is a more overt, fruit-driven wine than Il Poggio in this vintage. Sweet scents of French oak meld into blackberries, blueberries, licorice and grilled herbs. The fruit remains extremely primary, while the oak is a touch prominent, both of which suggest further cellaring is needed for all of the elements to come together. A rich, textured, creamy finish provides the final exclamation point to this superb, pedigreed Nemo. This distinctly Tuscan Cabernet seems to get better and better with each passing vintage. The 2006 is not to be missed. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Aug/2011
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Intense ruby red colour.
Aroma: Rich black cherry sauce, balanced by floral notes, cedar and earth.
Taste: Raspberry and blueberry with baking spices, cedar and minerals engaged the sense and traversed a fine line between rich and juicy.

A classic Chianti." - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, July/Aug 2010

Awards & Accolades:
2008 ~ Silver ~ Syrah du Monde 2010
2006 ~ 4 Stars! "Heady, spicy aromas. Fresh crushed berries with lavender, rosemary, oregano and woodsmoke. Densely packed, full of creamy, spice-laden blackcurrant, plum, damson and tobacco leaf." ~ Drinks International, May/08
2005 ~ Silver Medal ~ International Wine Challenge 2008
2005 ~ Silver Medal ~ Decanter World Wine Awards 2008
2005 ~ Medal Winner ~ International Wine & Spirit Competition 2008
2003 ~ 91 Points. "Lots of dark berry and licorice fruit, with a silky texture despite its weight. Quite toasty and tarry on the finish, with a slightly firm feel, but plenty of fruit for a hedonistic experience." ~ Wine Spectator, May 31/06
2003 ~ "Powerful, elegant, cannot dissect, with perfect harmony. It's ruby-coloured with an elegant nose of pepper, earth, spice and meat, with a mouth-filling richness, and silky, long finish. The grapes are a special selection, the average age is over 20 years and they are fermented in small concrete for very little heat exchange." ~ Mary Bailey, City Palate, Nov-Dec/08
"The Hermitage spends 18 months in barrel, 60 percent of which is new. It's fleshy and dark, with lots of tangy black cherry, toast and mineral notes, along with the tannic spine of the vintage.
At the Cave de Tain l'Hermitage, managing director Julie Campos knows about the success at La Chablisienne--she worked at Chablis producer Christian Moreau for several years. Now she is in charge of 378 individual growers who together account for over 2,900 acres of vines, all located within 13 miles of the winery. The co-op accounts for 25 percent of the production of Hermitage itself, and produces a total of 4 million bottles annually." ~ Wine Spectator Online, Friday, Dec 01/06
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Dark ruby with purplish tints.
Aroma: Delicate jammy red and blackberry fruits, black olive, liquorice and pepper.
Taste: Aromas carry through on the rich, full elegant palate.
Pairing: Red meats grilled or game in sauce, venison.

Awards & Accolades:
2009 ~ 91 Points ~ "Dark and dense, with a packed core of blackberry, anise and roasted fig notes supported by rather sleek structure for Cornas. Picks up more briar and sweet tapenade as this moves through the finish. Drink now through 2017. 700 cases made." - Wine Spectator, Feb/12
2007 ~ 90 Points ~ "A smoky, perfumy style, with black cherry and roasted fig notes layered with black tea, espresso and cocoa powder hints. The long, olive-tinged finish lets a toasty edge linger. Drink now through 2016. 1,200 cases made." - Wine Spectator, Nov/09
2007 ~ 89 Points ~ "A ripe, nicely rounded style, with a core of red currant and fig fruit laced with hints of iron, lavender and violet. The finish is fresh and juicy." - Wine Spectator, Nov/09
2006 ~ 91 Points ~ "Nicely packed, with warm fig sauce, currant paste, coffee and bittersweet cocoa powder notes, this is muscular and dense, but has the buried minerality and balance to reward cellaring. Best from 2009 through 2015. 1,200 cases made." - Wine Spectator, Nov/08
2006 ~ 5 Stars & Exceptional - Drink International, May/08
2006 ~ 5 Stars ~ "Very fragrant nose. Spiced plum, garrigue herbs, baked gammon and fresh leather and spearmint. Elegantly powerful with gentle, ripe tannin through to a lengthy finish." - Drink International, May/08
2006 ~ 4 Stars ~ Wine of the Year ~ "Oily pine nose. Enclosed palate, with a muscular frame. Good - tar and gun flint and a little charcoal. This delivers punch and active fruit. Floral aftertaste, plus tannin and liquorice. Drink from 2009. (16.6 points) - Decanter.com, 2009
2005 ~ 92 Points ~ Wine Enthusiast, 2007
2005 ~ Silver Medal ~ Syrah du Monde 2008
2005 ~ Best in Class ~ International Wine & Spirit Competition 2008
"At the Cave de Tain l'Hermitage, managing director Julie Campos knows about the success at La Chablisienne--she worked at Chablis producer Christian Moreau for several years. Now she is in charge of 378 individual growers who together account for over 2,900 acres of vines, all located within 13 miles of the winery. The co-op accounts for 25 percent of the production of Hermitage itself, and produces a total of 4 million bottles annually." - Wine Spectator Online, Friday, December 01, 2006
2003 ~ 90 Points ~ "Very dark and smoky, with layers of plum, black currant and fig fruit pushed by ambitious mocha- and vanilla-scented toast. Impressive concentration, though the terroir is blurred (typical for Cornas in '03)." - Wine Spectator, May 31/06
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Dark ruby colour with purple tints.
Aroma: Spicy nose with hints of candied fruits and black olives together with a fine woody touch of roasted and toast notes.
Taste: The initial impression is intensively powerful. The middle palate is rich and full flavoured - toasty, roasted notes, liquorice and menthol - followed by a firm tannic strucutre, true to its origin. A wine with a remarkable fullness and an excellent ageing potential.
Pairing: All kinds of tasty game and red meats in marinade or roasted.
Other Info:
Grown on steep terraces in granite sand. Grapes are picked at perfect ripeness (colour, flavours, tannins). Long vatting (3 weeks) and free run juice completed in vat, followed by a 20 month ageing in French oak barrels.

Awards & Accolades:
2009 ~ 98 Points. "Performing even better from bottle than it did from barrel, this appears to be the finest Lynch Bages since the 2000, 1990 and 1989. According to the chateau, the 2009 has the highest level of polyphenols ever measured as well as high alcohol (nearly 13.5%). A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest largely Merlot with touches of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it is an expressive, voluptuously textured effort with unctuosity and powerful, juicy, succulent blackberry and black currant flavors, low acids, a layered, massive mouthfeel, but no sense of heaviness or fatigue. This exquisite Lynch Bages should drink well for 30+ years." - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate #199, February 2012
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Deep ruby.
Aroma: Exhibits glorious perfume of graphite, black currants, and subtle smoke.
Taste: It is an expressive, voluptuously textured effort with unctuosity and powerful, juicy, succulent blackberry and black currant flavours, low acid, layered, massive mouthfeel, without a sense of heaviness or fatigue.
Pairing: Try with chorizo and pepperoni pizza, vegetarian lasagna, slow cooked Ragu or even a paella.
Other Info:
2009 ~ Available in BC Winter/13.
The vineyard of Lynch-Bages is spread across the gravely plateau of the hamlet of Bages, to the south of Pauillac. From 1749 to 1824, it was owned by the Lynch family, of Irish origin, and later, in 1933, became the property of Cazes family. In 1973 Jean Michel Cazes initiated the renovation of the whole property. The estate has been equipped with modern facilities to produce a worldwide famous wine.

Colour: Dark, intense violet colour.
Aroma: Complex bouquet of roasted coffee, liquorice, cherry and hints of leather.

Awards & Accolades:
2010 ~ 96 Points. "Very expressive, with layers of lush blueberry coulis, fig paste, currant confiture and melted red liquorice all wrapped with toasted spice and coursing through the vivacious finish. A gorgeous display of fruit, with the spine to keep it balanced. Drink now through 2027." - Wine Spectator, October 2012
2009 ~ 95 Points. "A sensational effort, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (100% Grenache from 70- to 80-year-old vines planted in pure sand) was aged in 2- to 3-year-old barrels. Incredible aromas of roasted Provencal herbs, licorice, truffles, kirsch and black raspberries jump from the glass of this dark ruby/purple-hued wine. Full-bodied and voluptuous as well as extremely elegant and poised, the sweetness of the tannin and the wine’s unctuosity and viscosity are all remarkable. This is a blockbuster, old vine Grenache to drink over the next 15+ years." - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate #197, Oct 2011
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Deep black with hints of purple.
Aroma: Roasted hints on the nose and very ripe red fruit aromas.
Taste: Concentrated, powerful and explosive on the palate with hints of cherry, ripe black fruits and liquorice.
Pairing: This wine would be ideal with spicy dishes, a beef tenderloin steak with ginger or "tajine aux 5 epices".

2009 ~ 90 Points. "Charred oak, maple, tobacco and berry aromas are full and clean. The palate is solid but no so polished and smooth that there's no edge to things. Awards & Accolades:
2010 ~ Recommended. "This is one of the most abundant and widely distributed Pinot Noirs made in Oregon, a wine whose production has gone up dramatically since Ste. Michelle Wine Estates purchased Erath a few years ago. Thus, this is a wine that does a lot of missionary work for Oregon, carrying the message of its Pinot Noir across the country and even around the world. It opens with aromas of white strawberry, white pepper, cherry and black truffle. On the palate, it reveals flavors of cranberry, raspberry and red plum. It’s all backed with bright acidity and mild tannins." - Great Northwest Wine, May 16, 2013
2010 - "Light and delicately tangy, offering pretty red berry and tea leaf aromas and flavors that linger deftly." - Wine Spectator, Feb 28/13 (Web only)
2010 - "Pale ruby. A very pretty wine aromatically with strawberry, peppermint, red cherries, and vanilla. The palate is light bodied with tart, delicate cranberry flavors. 100% Pinot Noir. Aged in 25% new French oak." - Washington Wine Report, Feb/13
2009 ~ 89 Points. “Good intensity on the nose, with strawberry, raspberry, cherry, clove and orange zest notes. The palate is nicely balanced and silky in texture, with lots of bright red fruits, spice and dusty, cocoa tannins.” – Rhys Pender, Wines for your Weekend - Wine Access Buyer’s Guide+, Aug. 4/11
2009 ~ "A Perfect Match- Poached Salmon with Pinot Noir."- Wine Spectator, Oct/11
2009 ~ "The 2009 Pinot Noir Oregon is a pleasant, straightforward, fairly priced wine that offers good varietal character. It is meant for drinking over the next 4-5 years." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Oct/11
2009 ~ "Light and clean, this take on Pinot Noir, comparable to a modest bourgogne from a big shipper such as Bouchard. The alcohol rests comfortably at 13.5%, and the wine is done in a fruit-forwar, drink-now style that fits the price point." - Wine Enthusiast, Aug/11
2008 ~ "Light in texture, with pretty cherry and orange peel aromas and flavors playing against refreshing acidity, lingering nicely. Drink now." - Wine Spectator, May/10
2007 ~ 89 Points. "Year's Best Pinot Noir and Best Buy" - Wine & Spirits, Nov/09
2007 ~ Top Value. "Light and Crisp, with currant and floral aromas and flavors." - Wine Spectator, Dec/08
2007 ~ "Light and crisp, with currant and floral aromas and flavors that pick up a bit more steam as they develop in the mouth, lingering nicely. Drink now through 2012" - Wine Spectator, Dec/08
2007 ~ Wine for Thanksgiving Dinner. Light, pleasant and earthy with a bit of a bite at the end that's interesting and fun. Happy, with a hint of strawberry fruit. Everyone would love this. - Wall Street Journal, Nov/09
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Luminous ruby red.
Aroma: Wafts of red plum and raspberry intertwine with spice, soft sage and an intriguing hint of cracked pepper.
Taste: The palate features flavours of juicy Bing cherry, cranberry cocktail and a late kiss of vanilla spice.
Pairing: Try this with Thai or Chinese pepper sauce, grilled scallops, thin crust pizza margherita, pasta with red sauce, and zesty BBQ.
Other Info:
The 2011 vintage is a throw-back to the long and cool growing seasons that put Oregon on the world wine map. This translates to lower alcohols, higher acidity, and fruit flavours that are fresh and bright. Stylistically similar the 2008 and 2010 vintage, these wines will pair beautifully with food and offer excellent cellaring potential.

Colour: Medium gold with straw highlights.
Aroma: Enticingly fragranced with honeydew melon, rose petals and bread dough, could not be a lovelier example of one of OregonŐs favorite varietals.
Taste: Flavors of green apple, Meyer lemon and a hint of banana offer a mouth-watering juicy palate.
Pairing: Ideal as an aperitif, beautiful with all kinds of seafood, turkey, pork, Asian cuisine, and light to medium spicy foods.
Other Info:
Erath has been working with this grape variety for more than two decades. The style of Pinot Gris shows purity of fruit, balance & wonderful acidity in an unadulterated Ňno wood, no malolacticÓ style. This attention to detail starts in the vineyards & continues to the winery. From the close monitoring of cluster counts & weights to whole cluster pressing and cool fermentation temperatures, the goal is to make a lively, approachable white wine that is food-friendly & indicative of the cooler growing conditions in Oregon.
In 2011, cool springtime temperatures, like elsewhere in the Northwest, delayed bud break, bloom and veraison. Conditions were much cooler & later throughout the season with a period of moderately sunny weather from mid- to late-October & the vintage was not just saved, it was enhanced. The 2011 vintage is a throw-back to the long & cool growing seasons that put Oregon on the world wine map. This translates to lower alcohols, higher acidity, & fruit flavors that are fresh and bright.

Awards & Accolades:
2010 ~ "Light and transparent, with delicate raspberry, nutmeg and lime blossom flavors that linger on the fragile finish. Drink now through 2015." - Wine Spectator, Feb/13
2010 ~ "Bright medium red. Fresh red berries and white pepper on the fragrant, high-toned nose. A tangy, focused midweight that offers an array of red fruit flavors and a subtle touch of blood orange. Finishes clean and tight, with lingering spice and floral notes." - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Aug/12
2010 ~ 90 points. “Ample for a 2010, this substantial pinot leads with rich, seductive black cherry scents. Saturated in a dark fruit, with an oak component that complements the tobacco firmness of the tannins, it has the heft for roast pork.” Year’s Best Pinot Noir – Wine & Spirits, April 2013
2010 ~ "From the challenging 2010 vintage, this estate-selection Pinot Noir offers complexity and nuance in an elegant style. Winemaker Gary Horner (celebrating a decade with the winery in 2012) crafted this bottling from grapes grown at five renowned Willamette Valley sites. Aromas of red berries, vanilla and spice lead to a silky palate that adds plum and cherry flavors to the mix, along with a nice finish of mineral and crisp acidity which serve well to accompany grilled salmon and other Northwest fare." - Wines Northwest Aug/12
2009 ~ 91 Points. "Open textured, with lovely raspberry and cherry fruit at the core, hinting at cinnamon and rose as the finish lingers. Delicate and inviting. Drink now through 2017." - Wine Spectator, Jan/12
2009 ~ "Outstanding - Thankfully, this is the second-largest lot at Erath, and it shows Gary Horner's skill with blending. Six vineyards contribute, but Battle Creek near Turner, Ore., dominates at 84%. This remarkable definition of Pinot Noir features aromatics akin to strawberry/rhubarb pie, Rainier cherry, black raspberry, fresh cranberry, crushed mint and a strip of cedar. Its flavor profile leads with the cherry, follows with the strawberry/rhubarb compote and finishes with that cranberry. There's a steady flow of acidity, virtually no tannins and hints of BakerŐs chocolate and white pepper in the farewell. If you want give someone a snapshot of Oregon Pinot Noir, send them a bottle of this." Wine Press Northwest, Oct/11
2008 ~ 90 Points. "Light in texture, with a lovely range of raspberry, red cherry and spice flavors mingling easily against lively acidity, finishing with finesse." - Wine Spectator, Dec/10
2008 ~ "Chilled, fruity and complex wines work well for summer...For a romantic picnic, consider one of the excellent pinots from Oregon's award-winning Erath Winery such as the elegant Erath Estate Selection Pinot Noir 2008, a slightly zesty, medium-bodied pinot with red cherry, plum and sage along with a long-lasting finish..." - Gazette.net, June 29/11
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Medium bright red
Aroma: Vibrant aromas of rhubarb strawberry pie, warm blackberries laced with vanilla.
Taste: A bright palate of red plums and currants affords a sweet, juicy entry that builds and flows with a subtle smokiness, seamlessly surrendering to a lingering finish.
Pairing: Excellent with wild mushrooms, duck, roast beef, lamb or other red meats, chocolate, garlic and salmon.
Other Info:

2007 ~ Best Buy ~ "Arancio's young Nero d'Avola offers those distinctively Sicilian accents of almond paste or pistachio cream that pair so well with the wine's natural core of solid black fruit. The wine has a sweet nose, without tasting sweet and offers chewy fruit on the close." - Wine Enthusiast Magazine, Nov. 1/08
2007 ~ 100 Best Buys of 2009 ~ "This forward red has dark cherry and grapey fruit checked by chewy tannins. It feels balanced yet substantial, delivering a lot of flavour at a fair price." - Wine & Spirits Magazine, Winter 2009
2006 ~ Best Buy! - International Value Wine Awards, 2008

Tart cherry flavours take the lead on this medium-bodied red, with mocha, strawberry and plum notes rounding things out. 2005 ~ Italy's Top 25 Under $20 ~ "Sicily is known for its warmth, but the islands interior - where Feudo Arancio's vineyards are - also sees cold nights, giving this lush red a firm spine of acidity in addition to its sweet blackberry fruit." - Food & Wine Sept, 2007

2011 ~ Category Champion: Rose - Wine Access International Value Wine Awards 2012
2009 ~ "2009 rose is an unusual blend anywhere, but especially for Israel, 74% Sangiovese, 14% Barbera and 12% Pinot Noir. It works pretty well here. This is bright and friendly, not terribly intense or deep, but cheerful and fruity, with good clean flavors. It would be a lot of fun on a warm day. Drink now." - Robert Parker, erobertparker.com Dec, 2010
2007 ~ "A fresh rose, with berry and cherry flavors and a crunchy, spice-filled finish. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Barbera. Kosher. Drink now." - Wine Spectator 'Web Only' 2008
Tasting Notes:
Colour: A pink-colored wine with shades of glittering lilac.
Aroma: Notes of strawberry, pomegranate and ripe nectarine with characters of blooming wild flowers.
Taste: Refreshing and balanced acidity with a pleasurable finish.
Pairing: Enjoyed alone or with friends, the wine goes well with tapas or a summer meal featuring a variety of refreshing dishes. Recommended to serve cold (46-50F / 8-10C).
Other Info:
74% Sangiovese, 14% Barbera, 12% Pinot Noir. The hand-harvested Sangiovese grapes were crushed immediately upon their arrival to the winery. The juice followed a classic white wine process, settling for 24 hours and undergoing cold fermentation (at 57F / 14C). Rose was produced from the Pinot Noir and Barbera grapes in the saignee (bleeding) method, where a small percentage of juice from the red wine tanks was drawn off a few hours after receiving the grapes, and then fermented separately.

Awards & Accolades:
2010 ~ Judges' Choice: Viognier - Wine Access International Value Wine Awards 2012
2010 ~ “This viognier has floral and tropical aromas, with apricot, green apple, spice and a touch of oak on the nose. Not very common with viognier, 40% of the grapes were fermented in new oak. On the palate, this wine feels like a chardonnay, but a little more floral, tropical and bitter. Oak flavours dominate the finish allowing it to match with foods like a chardonnay would. Think cream-based pastas, poultry or mushroom-flavoured dishes.” – Wine Access Magazine, October 11/12
2009 ~ Top 100 Wines Under $20 for 2012. "This is the Marilyn Monroe of wines. Or the Matthew McConaughey. Deep golden looks and a distinctive air of perfumed seduction will leave you swooning after one look and swirl. But that's voluptuous Viognier for you. Amazingly aromatic and full of flavour, this exotic bottle front he vineyards of Israel's Upper Galilee Valley oozes nectarine and flower petal aromas that lead into a rich, honeyed feel in the mouth and a caramel kiss on the finish." - James Nevison, Had a Glass, 2012
2009 ~ "People don’t often think of Israel when they think of wine, but this beauty of a white may change your mind. Galil – owned by the famous Golan Heights Winery – is located on the Israeli border, overlooking Lebanon. I have been a big fan of the Cabernet Sauvignon for a couple of years, but only recently tried the Viognier, which is new to the Alberta market and is, like the Cab, superb. The importer describes it as a “voluptuous Viognier,” and I agree; this full-bodied white is loaded with lush floral, apricot and peach notes. A great one for Chardonnay fans who want to try something new and interesting. And, a bonus for anyone who’s Jewish: it’s both kosher and kosher for Passover, in case you feel like putting a bottle away until next spring. Drink: Now, or stick in the cellar for two or three years. If you are already thinking about Thanksgiving, it would be great with turkey or roast chicken, or simple white fish dishes. It’s also delicious by itself. Cork closure. Serve chilled." - Shelley Boettcher, The Calgary Herald, September 18, 2011
2009 ~ "To be frank, pairing a rich viognier with scallops and avocado is not perfect—an acidic Sauvignon Blanc would be more complementary—but this new wine is just so nice (and nicely priced) that I recommend drinking it with everything for the next few weeks. I wrote in the magazine a few issues back about the surprising quality of Israeli wines and this Viognier for Galil Mountain reinforces my initial thoughts. It has a heady nose of apricots and ripe peach, a slight taste of oak in the mouth and a great long finish. Could double as perfume—and it's kosher. Pair with Black Rice Edamame Risotto with Sea Scallops, Avocado Coulis, and Roasted Tomatoes." - Neal McLennan, Western Living Magazine, Sept/11
2009 ~ "The majority of Viognier is best consumed young, when the wine’s aromas are most prominent and instantly gratifying. Galil Mountain’s voluptuous Viognier suggests as much on the back label, recommending the wine’s potential aging as “two to three years from time of harvest.” And it’s true that this elegant white from Israel’s Upper Galilee is pouring fantastic right now. Rich and honeyed, it’s redolent with nectarine and a floral perfume and finishes smooth with a caramel kiss. Bottom line: A “Great intro to Viognier.” - James Nevison, The Province, August 11/11
2009 ~ "The 2009 VIOGNIER, from the Upper Galilee, is light and graceful with a touch of oak, friendly and sweet, tasty and charming, but without a lot of finish or concentration. Take it for what it is, drink it as young and as fresh as possible for peak results, and it offers some nice value, coming in at nice price point. Drink now-2012." - Robert Parker, erobertparker.com, Dec 2010
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Glittering golden color.
Aroma: Fresh herbal aromas and a delicate background of oak.
Taste: Notes of apricot, ripe nectarine and invigorating perfume. A medium-bodied wine with a silky texture and long, balanced finish.
Pairing: Best with flavorful eastern dishes or cream-based dishes like pasta in cream of mushroom sauce.
Other Info:
Some 60% of the wine underwent cold fermentation in stainless steel, with the remaining 40% fermented in new French oak barrels. The barrel-fermented wine aged on yeast lees for six months. The cold fermentation enabled the wine to preserve the varietys fresh characters, while wood and yeast characters were added to the barrel-fermented wine.

2006 ~ BC Wine of the Week - "Always a fine producer of fresh-tasting ice wine, in this case with apricot, honey, lime and orange aromas. The attack is rich, round and slightly fat but with a fine acid-sugar balance and plenty of ripe apple, orange, mineral, apricot and honey flavours. Keep a bottle handy for holiday treats." ~ Anthony Gismondi, The Vancouver Sun, Dec. 22/07
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Medium brilliant gold.
Aroma: Intense, youthful ripe apricot, tropical fruit, honey and green apple.
Taste: Aromas carry through on the lush palate, the ample but well-integrated acidity balances the intense sweetness and intense concentration.
Pairing: Delicious enjoyed as a dessert itself, or with tarte tatin.
Other Info:
Grapes for this wine were picked at 10 degrees Celsius; cold enough to freeze the berries solid. During pressing all the sugars, acids, and flavour components slowly drip out, leaving the berries water content in the press as ice. The natural concentration results in intense sweetness balanced by concentrated acidity, while preserving the delicate fruit flavours.
