Maison Louis Jadot’s story can’t be reduced to a simple list of dates. It is, above all, a summary of moments, meetings and an overall philosophy, all based on one simple vision: to maintain the grandeur of Burgundy’s great terroirs for all time.
It all began with a parcel of vines. And we all know just how important these individual bits of land are in Burgundy. It was with the purchase of the Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the story of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. For nearly 200 years they have focused their energies on promoting Burgundy and its viticultural heritage. Ever since the birth of Maison Louis Jadot, they have managed to reunite hundreds of parcels of vines, handing them down from one generation to another in order to guarantee the quality of the wines from this unique terroir.

Bright lemon yellow.
Grilled hazelnuts and minerals on the nose.
This elegant premier cru is marked by focused ripe peach and pear fruit in a refined, old-vine structure with notes of spice, grilled hazelnuts and minerals on the nose and palate, with a layered, lasting finish.
Shell fish dishes, such as lobster or crabmeat in a light wine sauce, salmon, trout or Dover Sole simply grilled or poached.
Puligny-Montrachet, situated to the south of Meursault and to the north of Chassagne-Montrachet, shares with Chassagne a handful of the greatest white wine vineyards in the world. The grand crus of Le Montrachet and Batard-Montrachet straddle the border between the two communes; those of Chevalier-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet lie entirely within Puligny. Of the commune's 1,260 acres of A.O.C. vineyards, 52 are occupied by these four grand crus.

"The 2024 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Garenne 1er Cru has a very cohesive bouquet with a little more tension than the La Garenne cuvée: touches of grilled walnut and almond, a dab of crushed stone. The palate is well balanced with a smooth entry. Again, the acidity is just a bit lower than expected, fine depth, quite rounded on the finish with hints of camomile coming through with time. I like the persistence of this wine and it should develop well in bottle." - Neal Martin
2023 -
"The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne (Duc de Magenta) is medium to full-bodied, satiny and saline, with more cut and energy than the Maison bottling." - William Kelley
2021 -
"The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru has an attractive nose with touches of slate and a slight fumé scent that complements the malic aromas. This gains precision in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with a crisp bead of acidity. A stem ginger note hides in the background, whilst the finish feels reassuringly persistent. This should age well in bottle."

"Clos de la Garenne is located within Champ Canet, above Clos de la Mouchère, where Domaine Duc de Magenta has 0.84ha of 80-year-old vines that Jadot rents. Lightly crushed and fermented in cask (25% new), this gives a powerful wine, citrusty and crisp, with immense concentration and a very lively balance, even in the heat of 2020. A marvellous wine and something to seek out."
2019 -
"Concentrated flavors of white peach and apricot are swirled into hazelnut and sweet cream in this ripe Chardonnay. Deeper reaching, ephemeral nuances of earth and stone here are a step up from Jadot's village-level Puligny. Fresh and mineral on the finish, the wine should develop beautifully through 2034 and hold further still."
2018 -
"The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet of honeysuckle, Golden Delicious apples and light brioche notes that come through with aeration. The palate is fresh and spicy on the entry, offering orange peel and tangerine, a twist of sour lemon on the entry, good weight and a slightly waxy-textured finish that lingers in the mouth. Good potential here."
2018 -
"The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Garenne (Maison Louis Jadot) offers up aromas of fresh pear, yellow orchard fruit, white flowers and toasted almonds. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and incisive, with a delicately fleshy profile and a mineral finish."
2017 -
"The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne (Duc de Magenta) offers up aromas of minty pears, spices and smoky oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, elegantly satiny palate with good underlying acidity and a long, pure finish."
2016 -
"The 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne had a very feisty bouquet, much more expressive than its peers, with scents of grilled walnut and smoke. It seems to calm down with aeration but it certainly has a lot of vigor. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, harmonious and with just a slightly honeyed texture. I appreciate the complexity on the finish here and this Clos de la Garenne shows more terroir expression that its peers from Jadot. Worth checking out."
2015 -
"The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne, under the "Domaine Due de Magenta" label, has an expressive bouquet with good fruit concentration: dried honey, orange zest and a touch of pralines developing in the glass. The palate is fresh on the entry with a keen thread of acidity, nicely balanced with a harmonious and focused finish. This is worth looking out for, once in bottle."
2015 -
"Light, bright yellow. Ripe white peach and lemon aromas are complicated by nuances of stone, menthol and white flowers. Nicely ripe and intense if not especially nuanced, offering lively flavors of white peach, lemon and flowers. Supple but firmly built, with a hint of malic acidity giving shape to the finish. Most of this juice normally goes into the village bottling, but the team especially liked the quality of the Garenne in 2015."
2015 -
"In 2015, the Clos de la Garenne offers a riper expression of Puligny, with aromas of peaches and white flowers. This is followed by an ample palate, of greater volume but less finesse, minerality and length than its premier cru siblings."
2014 -
"Pale yellow-gold. Yellow peach and spicy oak on the nose. Concentrated and nicely delineated, showing excellent thrust and framing lemony acidity to its pear, peach and mineral flavors. Conveys an impression of high-altitude freshness but this is plenty ripe for the year. Finishes rich and long. Incidentally, this bottling is now a negociant blend of three components, two of them estate. There was previously a separate domain bottling of La Garenne, but Jadot decided that that was too confusing."
2013 -
"Pale, bright yellow. Menthol, crushed stone, lavender and fleur de sel on the nose. Brisk apple, pear and lemon fruit flavors are nicely supported by minerality. Boasts a lovely sugar/acid balance. This pure, focused wine finishes with strong acidity and a suggestion of crushed-rock austerity."
2012 -
"(from 80-year-old vines; Jadot purchases juice): Bright yellow. Mirabelle and lemon aromas are accented by a minty nuance. Boasts very good juicy lift to its lemon and peach flavors but less richness and extract than the Folatieres; there was more juice in the Clos de la Garenne grapes, noted Barnier. I like the balance and the vivacity of fruit here. (There's no Pucelles in 2012 as the grower would not give up the fruit.)"
2011 -
"Good pale yellow. Cool aromas of citrus fruits and noble herbs, with an emerging oaky element. Dense, pliant and supple but also juicy and precise, with flavors of lemon, lime and vanillin oak accented by minerals and spices. Finishes with spice, resin and lemon notes and very good floral persistence. This has the balance to permit early enjoyment."
